Here in Los Angeles, it is already feeling like Summer, so for my day off, I thought I wear this jaunty little getup.  Not that I couldn't wear this outfit to work, but check out those flats - I wouldn't want to be the person who runs into me after I've been standing in those things for eight hours.

A couple of work outfits from last week:

Tuesday, April 23, 2013

I took a lovely hike last Tuesday with my number one friend A. and I was hoping to take a full shot of my hiking ensemble.  Alas, this is the only picture we were able to get before the battery on my camera died, but it does afford a nice look at my new sunglasses.  Over the years I have managed to curb my ravenous appetite for new shades and have got it down to a one-a-year habit.  Therefore, let me introduce you to 2013's sunglasses.

This is just a quick post to show off my newly dyed hair.  Did you even notice?  Some people do and some don't.  Black is not my natural hair colour, but for a very long time it was my normal hair colour, so I'm really not surprised that it goes unnoticed by many.  Anyway, I have some outfit pictures taken and waiting to be uploaded from my camera, so more posts to come later on this week.

More from Miss Q's collection

I love the double ties at the neck on this one, though I fear in the pictures the whole thing comes off a little frumpy.

This is another one with a matching skirt.  I'm wondering if I subconsciously chose to take this because of the popularity of mint green this season.

Look!  It's a Diane Von Furstenberg!! . . . well only sort of . . . it was made by Miss Q from a Diane Von Furstenberg Vogue pattern (which I was also given), so almost the same thing.

As promised, here is one of my new acquisitions from the Sacramento trip.  This came with a matching skirt, but right now I can't really bring myself to wear them together. Perhaps I have been influenced a bit too much by the modern style dictate of never being too "matchy matchy".  The other issue is that the skirts and dresses from this collection all fall at a very conservative slightly below the knee length (my aunt Q is a lady after all), which is not the most flattering length on me.  Hemming is the order of the day.

On holiday

So, once again I must apologize for lagging on the posts - I took a little blitz trip up to Sacramento to spend a few days with my great aunt Miss Q.  I must say I feel very lucky to have a proper spinster aunt.  Regular readers of this space will know that I owe a good portion of my wardrobe to her generous hand-me-downs.  And just when I think I must surely have been given all the awesome old clothing she has for me, she'll pull out some buried stash of lovelies.  I returned to LA with a small hoard of 60's dresses and two shopping bags of Vogue patterns of the same vintage.  I'll be showing those off soon, but in the meantime here are a few vacation shots:

I found this fedora in my closet the other day, smashed to hell.  Now, I am not normally one of life's fedora wearers, I bought this one when I was probably about thirteen and haven't used it much since then.  Somehow though, I think I've finally grown into it - perhaps the fact that it's been battered a bit helps.  I attempted to pull it off today in public and only lasted about an hour.  It's just a bit too hipster for me.

I feel I have been very lazy this past week with regards to posting, so I've decided to just put my snaps of the last week up with a minimum of fuss, not worry too much about the commentary and just have done with it.  Alright, here goes:

4/3

A customer today called these pants "Charlie Chaplin chic" which I guess is appropriate since Mr. Chaplin and I share an upcoming birthday.

Here I am trying to make these sailor bermudas look a bit presentable for a last minute work shift.

Nothing new here folks, just dachshunds and a circle skirt.

With this picture I came to realize that my sixteen year old self was right about at least one thing: Punk is for life.  I may work at a fancy corporate retail establishment now, I may buy their expensive clothing, but if I feel like posting ugly pictures of myself standing in my messy house online, more power to me!

3/25

Bought this new sweater because it was ridiculously cheap and one can always use simple sweaters in nice colours.  Bought this new jaguar scarf because it was fun and colourful and I've been wanting a lightweight infinity scarf as surprisingly I don't already own one.

3/24

Looking a bit on the grumpy side here in my yellow Topshop sweater and blue American Apparel scarf (actually it was one of those lengths of jersey fabric they enticed me to buy with promises that it could be worn 35 different ways.  I am a sucker I know).
